Happy Little Accident in the Food Forest!

When stewarding food forests, I always like to remind my students and clients that a food forest, like a natural ecosystem, is dynamic. It evolves and changes over time. While your initial food forest design may act as guide to get you started, you’ll find that, as the system matures, some plants might outcompete others, volunteers get established and some species thrive, while others die back. Your job, as a steward, is to architect your food forest’s evolution. Every season, you’ll make decisions on what you’ll allow to grow, and what you want to prune back, all with an understanding that a little bit of wildness is not only allowed, but encouraged!

In my video today, I talk about a happy little accident that happened in our food forest and how it will eventually change the architecture of the space. So click above to learn more!

And remember that if you’re interested in establishing your own food forest, my eBook,  ‘How to Design a Cold Climate Food Forest’ is available here.
